“It’s Great to Be a Florida Gator” Becomes Part of The Swamp

Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, more widely-known among Florida Gators fans as The Swamp, is one of the most beautiful places in Gainesville, Florida. Being a die-hard Gator fan, I am a bit on the biased side, but I’m positive that other Florida fans will agree with me on this one.

If you’ve ever found yourself amongst a sea of blue and orange Gator fans, you will almost always hear them chanting “It’s Great to Be a Florida Gator”. The chant is one that people of the Swamp have come to know and love. Well, those words will now be an even more significant part of attending games in Gainesville, because that famous chant has now been added to a wall at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.

I think it’s quite interesting that the slogan wasn’t part of the Swamp before now. I have been a Florida fan for over 10 years now, and I can’t recall a time when I wasn’t chanting “It’s Great to Be a Florida Gator” during every game. The stadium currently includes the slogans “This is … The Swamp” and “This is … Gator Country”, and the latter is something that I’ve never really heard until recently.

I think it’s pretty cool that Florida is updating their stadium with a fan favorite slogan. I will be paying the Swamp several visits this fall and chanting “It’s Great to Be a Florida Gator” from the stands as my favorite college football team takes the field.
