Northwestern vs. California: Game Preview With TV Schedule
The Northwestern Wildcats are one of the top college football teams in the nation that no one really talks or knows about. With a two-quarterback system in place, in Kain Colter and Trevor Siemian, the Wildcats are likely to follow the same scheme they ran a year ago. This team had a pretty dynamic offense with Venric Mark — and with two stellar quarterbacks and a solid run game, not much can go wrong on that side of the ball.
On the other side of the field, the California Golden Bears were one of the worst teams in all of college football with their embarrassing 3-9 record to go along with just one win away from home. This team was just awful and a big reason for that was the defense that gave up over 440 yards per game and 33.1 points per game — basically, this team was better off not even running a defense out there.
Luckily for Cal, it’s a new season and its defense could be slightly improved as they are returning four guys who finished with 2.5 or more sacks in 2012. However, the Golden Bears are losing three of their top four tacklers from last season — tough blow.
The offense is losing basically every top weapon you can think of from starting running back CJ Anderson, to starting quarterback Zach Maynard and even top wide out, Keenan Allen. This team might be doomed on the offensive side of the ball in 2013, especially facing a solid defensive unit in Northwestern in game one.
Northwestern is taking the long trip out to California to face the Bears at 10:30 p.m. EST on Saturday, Aug. 31. The game will be broadcasted on ESPN 2.
PREDICTION: Northwestern 33, Cal 10
