Clemson Tigers, Georgia Bulldogs Will Have a BCS Title Rematch
There are two things you should take from the Clemson Tigers‘ 38-35 win over the Georgia Bulldogs. The Tigers are SEC worthy, and the Bulldogs have the talent to get a chance at redemption in the BCS Title.
This game was as advertised in every way. Tahj Boyd, Sammy Watkins, Aaron Murray and Todd Gurley all came to play. There are just a handful of teams that can boast that kind of talent — period.
If you have been listening to this guy ramble for the past six to eight months, there are countless articles written explaining how Clemson has already arrived when it comes to elite teams in all of college football. If you go back to the beginning of 2012, Clemson is now 3-1 against the SEC with victories against the Auburn Tigers, LSU Tigers and Georgia. Their lone loss was to its rival South Carolina Gamecocks.
And Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney has already began the campaign to the media:
“There has never been a non-SEC team beat two top 10 ranked SEC teams until right now. I’m just so proud of my guys. We have a long way to go though. The season starts again tomorrow.”
And Swinney has a lot to be proud of in more than a few ways. To win a National Championship, you have to be deep, talented and extremely lucky. Georgia muffing the field goal was the little four-leaf clover the Tigers needed to cross over the first obstacle they face this season.
This sports writer has also been telling you for months that the ACC Football is the closest in talent to the SEC, and that was proven with Clemson’s win tonight. But, it also serves as a warning to watch ACC games with a different ounce or two of respect this season.
The Tigers will have some tough opponents, but they have the moxie to run the table. If they do, the computers will love them and will have them in the BCS title game.
So there is the great news for Clemson, but Georgia fans need not to be discouraged. If the Bulldogs can get past the Gamecocks next week in Athens, they will have a legitimate shot at running the table and getting another shot at the Tigers for all the marbles.
Lord knows what is being said by Georgia fans right now and who they think should be fired and benched. But listen to this guy when he says take a chill pill, breath normally and believe in the amazing talent and coaching you have. It’s a long season, and you will be trilled about Georgia’s season come December.
So as you tuck yourselves into bed, remember these other two things. One, Clemson has figured out how to play SEC football. Two, Georgia, like Clemson, can and would beat any other team in the country.
