Georgia Bulldogs Face Must-Win in Week 2

The Georgia Bulldogs put up a great fight on Saturday night against the Clemson Tigers before falling short, 38-35 in Death Valley.

While that loss is certainly nothing to be embarrassed about, the Bulldogs now find themselves in a very tough position this week: they face a must-win game against a top-10 team.

Georgia welcomes the South Carolina Gamecocks to Athens on Saturday. The same South Carolina team that was very impressive in its Thursday night win over the North Carolina Tar Heels in their season opener.

What should scare Georgia the most is that South Carolina showed in its opener that it will have a quick-strike offense this season. In the win over North Carolina, it took the Gamecocks only 1:19 before quarterback Connor Shaw hit Shaq Roland with a 65-yard scoring pass.

In the third quarter, South Carolina struck with a big play on the ground, as Mike Davis broke loose on a 75-yard touchdown run.

Georgia showed against Clemson that it is going to give up some big plays as well. Clemson scored on a 77-yard scoring pass from Tajh Boyd to Sammy Watkins in the first quarter, and later on a 31-yard pass from Boyd to Zac Brooks.

This seems like a recipe for disaster, if you are a Bulldog fan. However, Georgia does have quarterback Aaron Murray and running back Todd Gurley, who will need to play at an even higher level this week for Mark Richt and his team.

But the Georgia defense is the one that needs to make the biggest change. And if they don’t, Georgia could find itself at 0-2 and out of the national championship picture.
