It’s Time To Leave Johnny Manziel Alone
Let me start off by saying this: I am in college and 18 years old. I have an abundance of friends and family that have been in college before. I know how it works. I know how people go out and what they do for weekends. Now I am not in the spotlight like reigning hesiman winner Johnny Manziel. But if you think this kid isn’t doing what every other collegiate athlete is doing across the world you are living under a rock.
Now that the college football season has officially started and Manziel’s suspension is over it is time that we all step back and realize something. Manziel is just 20 years old. Let that sink in for a second. He is not a seasoned professional. He hasn’t been there before. So it is time that everyone leaves the kid alone. Even though that probably won’t happen it is something we should all seriously consider. The kid is just doing what 95% of college student-athletes do. Tyrann Mathieu did things that were ten times worse than Manziel. Did he get crucified in the media?
One other subject that has to be brought up is the taunting Manziel did against Rice the other day. We all know that Texas A&M is on a different level than Rice. Taunting happens in every single sport and in every single game. The days are gone where athletes don’t talk trash. Manziel will get crucified for taunting players without a doubt. But we will look back at him in 20 years and remember how he changed the game. How his youthful enthusiasm helped bring even more excitement to college football. It is almost comparable to what the Fab Five did in the early 90′s. They were vilified and hated for talking trash and taunting. Now we look back at them and remember them as legends that changed their sport.
So I am asking everyone to just relax. Remember when you were in college and what you were doing. Most importantly give Manziel a break and lets get back to talking about what an amazing athlete he is and how we will be telling our kids and grandkids about him in 30 years from now.
