Besides being amidst a major scandal, the Oklahoma State Cowboys are on track to win their third straight game to begin the season. Head coach Mike Gundy has this team unbeaten and poised to begin the season undefeated heading into Big 12 play.
On the other side of the field, the Lamar Cardinals are the last FCS squad on the Cowboys’ schedule. Starting the season 1-1 with a 75-0 win in their first game, the Cardinals look to have a pretty solid offense. The Oklahoma State matchup could get ugly, though.
Oklahoma State runs out a solid passing attack with J.W. Walsh taking over the reigns. Walsh has passed for 461 yards, four touchdowns and a 77 percent completion rate in two games to start the year and has made a statement as to why he should be the team’s starter. Oh, and Walsh also has 137 yards and two touchdowns on 18 carries — to bad for former starter Clint Chelf.
Lamar is averaging nearly 500 yards of total offense per game this season behind the arm of quarterback Caleb Berry. The young gunslinger has over 500 yards passing with seven touchdowns and an interception to begin the year.
Oklahoma State’s spotty secondary will be tested — if at all — by Berry and the Cardinals’ passing attack. Oklahoma State allowed over 500 yards to a lowly UTSA squad — putting a big question mark on the team’s defense. Lamar’s defense is pretty solid as well, allowing just 13.5 points per contest this season, but Oklahoma State’s potent offense will change that.
Lamar will travel to Oklahoma State to take on the Cowboys at 7:30 p.m. EST on Saturday, Sept. 14. Check your local listings for the channel.
