Stanford vs. Army: Game Preview With TV Schedule

Stanford

Kelley L Cox-USA TODAY Sports

The Stanford Cardinal proved in 2012 that they don’t miss Jim Harbaugh or Andrew Luck all too much. Third-year head coach David Shaw has led this team to a 23-4 record in his time as man in charge. The Cardinal have begun the season with a 34-13 win over tough in-state foe, San Jose State.

On the other side of the field, the Army Knights have begun the season a bit slower at 1-1 and have shown that there is a lot of room for improvement. The run game is the most impressive part of the offense while the pass game has yet to take off. Coming off a blowout loss against Ball State, the Knights will need t work on some things if they don’t want to get slaughtered by Stanford.

Stanford, led by quarterback Kevin Hogan, has a pretty average offensive attack. Hogan is a dual-threat quarterback with a relatively strong arm. He completed 17 of 27 passes for 207 yards and two scored in week one while Tyler Gaffney took over for Stepfan Taylor with 20 carries for 104 yards and two scores.

Army poses relatively no threat in the pass game with 177 total yards and one passing touchdown in two games. Larry Dixon and Angel Santiago lead the potent rushing attack with 214 and 157 yards, respectively. Army has the 10th best rushing attack in the nation with 329 yards per game.

Defensively, the Knights average about 370 yards of total defense per game this season against lowly opponents while allowing 26 points. On the other hand, the Cardinal have one of the best defenses in the nation and held the solid San Jose State Spartans’ offense to just 250 yards and 13 points.

Stanford will travel to Army to take on the Knights at 12 p.m. EST on Saturday, Sept. 14. The game will be broadcasted on CBS Sports Network.

PREDICTION: Stanford 38, Army 10
