Western Michigan vs. Northwestern: Game Preview With TV Schedule
The Northwestern Wildcats are quite possibly the best team in the nation that no one talks about. Head coach Pat Fitzgerald had this team ranked in the top-25 to begin the season for the first time in recent memory and starting the season 2-0 with a tough road win is nothing short of impressive.
On the other side of the field, the Western Michigan Broncos are 0-2 to begin the young season including a loss to Nicholls State. The Broncos are undergoing somewhat of a rebuilding year under a new head coach and new personnel in place.
Northwestern’s offense is one of the most electric in the Big Ten. Averaging 46 points per game, the Wildcats have a successful two-quarterback system to go along with an increasingly successful run game. Last year’s star rusher, Venric Mark, didn’t play in week two due to injury but will be back in week three, creating a devastating duo with junior Treyvon Green.
Western Michigan has had trouble on offense this season. The quarterback situation has been a bit sticky with both Zach Terrell and Tyler Van Tubbergen completing less than 50 percent of their passes and struggling to get the ball into the endzone. The Broncos ranked 102nd in the nation in points for with 18 a game and 91st in the nation in rush yards per game.
Defensively, the Wildcats have a lot of work to do, giving up 28.5 points per game against lesser opponents. They have allowed more than 450 yards per game this season as well. Western Michigan has given up 750 total yards this season while causing four turnovers.
Western Michigan will traveling to Northwestern to take on the Wildcats at 9 p.m. EST on Saturday, Sept. 14. The game will be aired on the Big Ten Network.
Prediction: Western Michigan 17, Northwestern 41
