Alabama vs. Texas A&M Will be Best SEC Title Game to Never Happen
It lived up to all the expectations — sort of. The No. 6 Texas A&M Aggies hosted the No. 1 Alabama Crimson Tide in what looks to be a possible SEC title rematch following the regular season. However, since they are in the same division, that won’t be allowed — just awful for both teams.
Johnny Manziel didn’t disappoint, passing for over 400 yards and rushing for nearly 100. Wide out Mike Evans caught a handful of Manziel’s passes for 279 yards and a touchdown. On the other side of the field, AJ McCarron passed for the most yards in a first half in his career with 250 and finished the game with 334 yards and four touchdowns.
These two teams could easily be No. 1 and No. 2 in the nation before the season is over, but they had to play each other, knocking one of them down a peg.
It will be quite interesting to see the season play out as the LSU Tigers could stand in the way of both teams as they are the best remaining team on both Texas A&M and Alabama’s schedule. If both teams can take the Tigers down, they will end up meeting once again in the conference championship game — the winner heading to the BCS National Championship — oh wait, they can’t because of the awful luck divisionally.
So, Aggies fans, don’t worry. Your team has nine regular season games left and I wouldn’t be surprised if they ran the table.
Both defenses looked poor in the game, which was surprising considering Alabama has the best defensive unit in the nation. However, the Aggies are notorious for giving up yards and points as they did just that in the first two weeks against Rice and Sam Houston State.
The improvement of the Aggies’ defense and the Crimson Tide getting back to the way the usually play defense will ensure both teams run the table, but too bad for A&M, as they won’t have a chance at the SEC title.
