Texas A&M Manhandles Alabama Early
The Texas A&M Aggies came ready to play this afternoon. Halfway through the first quarter, the Aggies were already leading the Alabama Crimson Tide 14-0. Quarterback Johnny Manziel and the Aggies marched down the field on the first possession of the game for their first seven points, just before they forced Alabama into a three-and-out on their first possession.
Through just two offensive series, the Aggies scored two touchdowns on five passes and seven runs. Manziel accounted for 138 of the teams first 143 yards, and wide receiver Mike Evans was his favorite target with three catches for just over 100 yards.
The Aggies came out with the energy on both offense and defense needed to get an early lead, which is why they were able to score so quickly. The defense for A&M looked scary good on Alabama’s first series as they let Alabama get called for two false starts before stuffing a run and a screen pass back-to-back.
The second series for the Alabama offense looked more like the Aggies offense as quarterback A.J. McCarron lead the offense 75 yards down the field for a touchdown of their own. That left the score at 14-7, Texas A&M lead, with over five minutes still left in the first quarter.
What we can take away from this game already is that it will include a fast-paced Aggies offense and a hyped-up Johnny Football. Manziel moved the A&M offense with ease in his first two series on the field, and as long as he continues to play with his usual intensity, this game will be a great one.
Through one full quarter, the Aggies were up 14-7 over the defending champion Crimson Tide and although there is plenty of game left to be played, the Aggies appear to be the better team today.
