Alabama Will Meet Up With Johnny Manziel Again This Season
The Alabama Crimson Tide were able to get a win against Johnny Manziel and the Texas A&M Aggies on Saturday. It was a game full of excitement and it had the feel of a National Championship game. With Alabama winning, they remain the No. 1 team in the country and are in charge of their own destiny to play in the BCS Championship Game. However, a loss for Texas A&M doesn’t necessarily eliminate them from getting there as well.
It was just a year ago, that Manziel and the Aggies upset No. 1 Alabama at home. With help form other teams, the Crimson Tide ended up playing in the SEC Championship game and winning the BCS title game against Notre Dame. Texas A&M ended up hammering Oklahoma in the Cotton Bowl, 41-13. Had Notre Dame lost their final game to USC, the BCS Title game would have been Alabama vs Florida and for the second year in a row, an SEC team that didn’t even play in the SEC Championship game would have ended up playing for the BCS title against the team that did win the SEC.
The prior year, LSU beat Alabama in the regular season and ended up winning the SEC Championship. Alabama moved up to number two in the standings and played LSU in the BCS Championship Game. It was the first time two teams from the same Conference played for the BCS Championship, and Alabama ended up winning the game.
The question is can Texas A&M climb back into the National Championship picture and set up a possible rematch with Alabama? First things first, teams like Oregon, Ohio State, Stanford and Florida State would need to lose a game for the Aggies to get back in the discussion. Oregon and Stanford play each other so one of them will lose. Florida State still has Florida, Clemson and Miami on their schedule, so there is a chance they will lose a game. Ohio State doesn’t really have a top tier opponent, so a one-loss Aggies team may end up on top of Ohio State in the BCS standings.
Everyone wants to see these two teams play again, and the way the BCS has gone the last few years, I wouldn’t count out the possibility of Johnny Manziel vs A.J. McCarron part 3.
