Pac-12 Previews and Predictions for Week 4
Week 4 Pac-12 Predictions
The Pac-12 is quickly rising up the ranks as one of the top-three conferences in the nation. It was always a top conference, but since they it just added a fifth team to the top-25, it has become the conference with the second-most teams in the rankings.
In week three, the Washington Huskies traveled to the Midwest to take on a resurgent Illinois Fighting Illini squad and Keith Price and Bishop Sankey led them to an impressive 34-24 victory. They weren’t the only Pac-12 team to take down a tough Big Ten team in week three, however.
It was a pretty emotional game for the UCLA Bruins as they were playing for Nick Pasquale – a teammate who was recently killed in a car accident. The Bruins went into halftime with an 11-point deficit and came out angry, racking up 31 straight points to win the game, 41-21. The Bruins have emerged as one of the best teams in college football and one of the top offenses as well.
Lane Kiffin and the USC Trojans are one of the most-talked about teams in the league, thanks to the team’s poor play. The Trojans are coming off a 35-7 win against Boston College and that didn’t make Kiffin's hot seat any cooler. This team will be interesting to watch going into week four against Utah State. I don’t think they’ll lose, but if it’s close, don’t be surprised to hear people call for Kiffin’s job.
The No. 23 Arizona State Sun Devils will travel to take on the No. 23 Stanford Cardinal this weekend in the conference’s best game. The primetime matchup will likely have some serious conference title implications.
Take a look at the Pac-12 week four previews and predictions for every game.
Idaho State at No. 17 Washington
Idaho State comes to Washington with the tough task of taking down the 2-0 and surging Washington Huskies. Bishop Sankey and Keith Price are a dynamic running back-quarterback duo that will have no problem with the Bengals -- it will be a big day for both of them.
PREDICTION: Idaho State 20, Washington 40
Utah State at USC
USC has been struggling mightily lately, but coming off a solid win against Boston College should boost its confidence a bit. Lane Kiffin is on the hot seat, but if he wins handily from here on out, those talks will be quieted. This one might be close, however.
PREDICTION: Utah State 21, USC 31
No. 23 Arizona State at No. 5 Stanford
Arizona State is coming off a huge win at home against Wisconsin, but winning on the road against an even tougher Stanford squad will not be as easy. Kevin Hogan will out-duel Taylor Kelly and the Sun Devils in this matchup.
PREDICTION: Arizona State 21, Stanford 34
Oregon State at San Diego State
Oregon State began the season ranked, but after a tough loss to an FCS squad, the Beavers have reason to believe the season is at a loss. However, junior quarterback Sean Mannion is one of the best gunslingers in the nation and leads the top passing attack into San Diego State to face the lowly Aztecs.
PREDICTION: Oregon State 42, San Diego State 28
Utah at Brigham Young
BYU has taken down Texas by 19 points already this season and a win at home against a solid Utah team could be big for the program. BYU's run game will be too much for the Utes' mediocre defense to handle.
PREDICTION: Utah 38, BYU 44
Idaho at Washington State
Washington State has never been a traditionally great program, but their two wins this season, including one on the road against USC, gives the Cougars reason to believe they can beat anyone. Idaho will be no issue for Connor Halliday and Washington State -- not to mention, the Vandals have one of the worst defenses in the nation, allowing over 40 points per game.
PREDICTION: Idaho 3, Washington State 40
New Mexico State at No. 13 UCLA
New Mexico State will travel to UCLA to take on a resurgent Bruins team. This game will be over quickly, however, as UCLA and Heisman-hopeful quarterback Brett Hundley have one of the best offenses in the country and they proved that against Nebraska, winning 41-21 on the road.
PREDICTION: New Mexico State 7, UCLA 38
