Akron Zips: 5 Players That Must Come Through To Take Down Louisiana
5 Players That Can Lead The Akron Zips To Victory This Weekend
The Akron Zips pushed the No. 11 ranked Michigan Wolverines to their breaking point last Saturday. However, they could not finish them off in the Big House. Michigan survived a 28-24 scare and the Zips must move and put this emotional loss behind them. They have a perfect opportunity at redemption as the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns come to town. Sitting at 1-2, the Zips can use the momentum gained from last week’s gutty performance as motivation to derail their opponent and even their season record.
Akron has a passing attack that can challenge the Ragin’ Cajuns secondary. The Zips are averaging 238 passing yards per game and were able to torch the Wolverines for 311 yards through the air. Louisiana is surrendering 233 passing yards per game. The Ragin’ Cajuns are allowing 29.7 points per game which is ranked 87th in the nation. The offensive line played very well last week and will need to open up holes against a Ragin’ Cajun defense that is allowing 194 rushing yards per game. The Zips will need to run the football in order to open up the play-action passing game. The Zips are averaging 103.3 rushing yards per game and need a better output this weekend.
The Zips have played two very good opponents so far this season in Central Florida and Michigan. Both teams are a combined 6-0 on the season. Akron is averaging 22 points per game and will look to run an uptempo attack that challenges the Ragin’ Cajuns on every level.
Akron will need to rely on these players in order to get the victory on Saturday.
Game time is set for 6:00 pm at Akron.
5. Place kicker Rob Stein
The Zips must be sound in the kicking game on Saturday against Louisiana. Rob Stein has a very strong leg and has been very good in pressure situations.
4. Running back Conor Hundley
Running back Conor Hundley is averaging over four yards per carry and is a very good "between the tackles" runner. Hundley adds power to the running game and is not afraid of contact.
3. Wide receiver LT Smith
LT Smith exploited the Wolverines last Saturday for five receptions for 125 yards. Smith can stretch the field for the Zips and is a big-play wide receiver.
2. Running back Jawon Chisholm
Running back Jawon Chisholm is a breakaway threat for the Zips. If he can find running room on Saturday, the Zips will be in position for the victory.
1. Quarterback Kyle Pohl
Quarterback Kyle Pohl is the leader of the Zips offense. On the season, Pohl has completed 55 of 92 passes with four touchdowns and four interceptions.
