Ohio State Football: Buckeyes Have a Huge Field Day vs FAMU
The no. 4 ranked Ohio State Buckeyes have been rolling these past few weeks even without starting quarterback Braxton Miller, who has been absent due to a knee injury. Since then, we have been introduced to backup quarterback Kenny Guiton, who has performed well these past three weeks as Miller continues to recover.
In Week 4, we got to know Guiton a lot more, as he threw for 215 yards, six touchdowns and a lone interception as he guided the Buckeye offense to 603 total yards of offense in a 76-0 rout of Florida A&M.
The No. 4 ranked Buckeyes have had the opportunity of not having to rush Miller back too soon with their string of weaker competition, and it’s largely thanks to the play of Guiton, who has provided Ohio State with a good problem at quarterback. Since taking over for Miller, Guiton has thrown for 449 yards, seven touchdowns and one interception, while boasting a passer rating of 163.6.
Guiton wasn’t the only threat for the Buckeyes, as they had tremendous success rushing the football, with running back Ezekiel Elliot carrying the football 14 times for for 162 yards and two touchdowns, while Cardale Jones came in second with eight carries for 52 yards and a touchdown.
Jordan Hall also had a solid day with four carries for 20 yards and two touchdowns. The Buckeyes ran the well with efficiency against the Rattlers’ front seven, finishing with 388 total rushing yards on the day.
On the receiving end, Evan Spencer led receivers with four receptions for 50 receiving yards and two touchdowns, while Jeff Heuerman added four more receptions for 43 yards and a touchdown. Devin Smith, Chris Fields and Carlos Hyde each recorded a touchdown catch in the process.
With a big win like this to go along with the Clemson Tigers‘ lackluster performance in their 26-14 win against NC State, the Buckeyes have the potential to move back up to No. 3 as AP voters seem to like the kind of blowout victories that top ranked teams have, regardless of the opponent.
This win also moves Ohio State to 4-0, and is likely the last game we will see Guiton starting (barring any setbacks for Miller). The Buckeyes will get their first test in Week 5 when they open up their Big Ten schedule against the Wisconsin Badgers at 8 p.m., ET in prime time on ABC.
