Record-Setting Game for Kenny Guiton Does Not Create a Quarterback Controversy for Ohio State Buckeyes

If you follow college football at all, you would have heard about the Ohio State BuckeyesKenny Guiton and his record-setting game on Saturday against the Florida A&M Rattlers. Now, because of this performance, some people are trying to create a quarterback controversy for the Buckeyes between Guiton and starting quarterback Braxton Miller. There should not be any question about who the starting quarterback should be for the Buckeyes.

Guiton started the game against the Rattlers on Saturday for the injured Miller, whose return is still in question as to when it will be for the Buckeyes. Guiton dominated the Rattlers, completing 22-of-32 passes for 207 yards and passing for six touchdowns to set a Buckeye record for single-game touchdown passes. The best and most surprising part of this amazing feat is that Guiton achieved all of this in the first half alone. Granted, he achieved this against an FCS school in Florida A&M, but it is still a very impressive feat and Guiton should be given plenty of credit for it.

However, it does not mean that Guiton should be given Miller’s starting spot. Guiton is a good and reliable quarterback, and the Buckeyes should be very grateful to have him as their backup quarterback behind their Heisman-caliber starter in Miller. But fans should not expect to see Guiton in that starting position once Miller returns from injury. Miller gives the Buckeyes the best chance to compete for a National Championship, and they should feel safe knowing they have a very good backup quarterback in Guiton to bring in should Miller suffer from any more injuries this season.

We will have to wait for a decision later in the week, but the Buckeyes should have little to no worries against Wisconsin this week even if Miller is still out, knowing they have a reliable backup quarterback in Guiton to start in his place.
