Texas A&M vs. Arkansas: Game Preview With TV Schedule

Texas A&M

Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

It wasn’t too long ago that the Texas A&M Aggies lost to the Alabama Crimson Tide on their home turf. Johnny Manziel and Kevin Sumlin took that loss very hard and it will take a top-notch performance and upset to take down the Aggies from here on out. If there’s one thing we learned from the loss it’s that the Aggies’ offense is unreal.

On the other side of the field, the Arkansas Razorbacks were starting to garner respect and attention from college football fans everywhere with their solid run game and 3-0 record until they lost, in heartbreaking fashion, to Rutgers. The Razorbacks took a big hit, but the games count even more now that SEC play has begun.

Like I said earlier, the Aggies have one of the best — if not the best — offenses in college football. Racking up over 600 yards of total offense against the team that had the best defense a season ago. The Aggies have the fifth best passing offense in the nation behind the arm of Johnny Football. Manziel has 1,228 yards passing to go along with 12 touchdown passes through three and a half games — as he missed the first half of week one’s game against Rice. One big reason for Manziel’s success through the air has been wide receiver Mike Evans who has been nothing short of spectacular for the Aggies with 22 catches for 575 yards and three touchdowns.

Arkansas has one of the best rushing offenses in football and a big reason for that is the two-headed monster that is Alex Collins and Jonathan Williams who each have over 400 yards on the ground. The two have combined for 891 yards and five touchdowns. This team will be scary to try and stop on the ground — especially for a poor Aggies defense. Quarterback Brandon Allen has passed for 388 yards and five touchdowns in a little over three games of work — he was injured in the team’s week three game but could be back against the Aggies.

Defensively, the Razorbacks have allowed over 300 yards just once in four games, but have been lightly-tested. They have yet to play a potent offense and the Aggies will expose their inexperience. Texas A&M owns one of the worst defenses in the entire SEC and it’s almost as if they have to outscore opponents instead of trying to keep them out of the endzone. The defense needs a ton of work on both sides.

Texas A&M will travel to Arkansas to take on the Razorbacks at 7 p.m. EST on Saturday, Sept. 28. The game will be broadcasted on ESPN 2.
