Wisconsin RB Melvin Gordon Turning Heads

This will come as zero surprise to anyone who has ever followed college football, but a running back on the Wisconsin Badgersfootball team is leading the nation in rushing.

In the latest chapter of dominant Wisconsin running backs, sophomore back Melvin Gordon is the guy racking up huge chunks of yards and keeping the tradition of Badger running backs alive and well.

Gordon has been on fire in the 2013 college football season. He is currently leading the nation in rushing yards total and rushing yards per game, with 624 yards on 53 carries and seven touchdowns. He is averaging an astounding 156 yards per game through four contests.

The most shocking part of it all? Gordon is the second-string running back. Veteran back James White is still the starter for the Badgers, and has eight more carries on the season than Gordon does.

So for Gordon, it is important to make the most of the opportunities he gets, and he has done just that all season long.

Gordon showed flashes of greatness in 2012, rushing for 621 yards and three touchdowns as a redshirt freshman and playing behind White and Montee Ball. But now that he is getting more carries, he’s making it hard for the coaching staff to keep him off of the field.

If Gordon is able to keep up this kind of production, expect to hear his name mentioned for all sorts of awards at the end of the season, and possibly to hear him in the Heisman Trophy conversation.
