Many people are talking about the relatively simple schedule put in place for the Louisville Cardinals in 2013. It looks like this team has a serious chance of going unbeaten and no one would really be that surprised if they did. Coming off a 72-0 thrashing of Florida International in week four, the Cardinals are 4-0 and rolling.
On the other side of the field, the Temple Owls are having the exact opposite luck that the Cardinals are experiencing. The Owls don’t have a very tough schedule either, but they sit at 0-4 — with three of the losses coming by nine points or less.
Louisville is led by a guy that goes by the name Teddy Bridgewater on offense. The junior quarterback is a magician on the field and could be the best quarterback in college football — actually many believe he will be the top draft choice in 2014. Through four games, he has passed for 1,214 yards and 14 touchdowns while completing over 70 percent of his passes. DeVante Parker has been the quarterback’s favorite target, racking up 331 yards and six touchdowns on the season. The only aspect of the offense that hasn’t been a top-10 caliber nationally is the run game which averages 182 yards per game.
Connor Reilly has struggled a bit for the Owls this season by completing just over 52 percent of his passes while throwing for two touchdowns and two picks. This offense has yet to get off the ground, ranking in the bottom half of the nation in nearly every offensive category. You aren’t going to win many games when you average just 364 yards and 18 points per game like the Owls do.
Defensively, the Owls have been extremely poor this season. While they have not allowed a team to score more than 30 points, they have allowed at least 470 yards in each game — allowing 500 yards or more three times. Louisville is coming off a game in which they allowed just 30 yards. That should be somewhat of a testament to how good the defense can actually be.
Louisville will travel to Temple to take on the Owls at 12 p.m. EST on Saturday, Oct. 5. The game will be broadcasted on ESPN 3.
PREDICTION: Louisville 56, Temple 10
