Florida State: Jameis Winston Puts the Maryland Terps Back in Their Shell
And Seminoles quarterback Jameis Winston‘s 393-yard, five-touchdown performance soon made the Terrapins retreat back into their shells as Florida State remained undefeated with a whopping score of 63-0 and handed the Terps their first loss of the season.
Maryland certainly had upset potential heading in, but he Seminoles refused, easily moving the ball against a Terrapin defense that held West Virginia to zero points in the previous week and showed some promise with C.J. Brown at quarterback. But Winston wasn’t the only star of the show for the Seminoles, as their defense held the Terps to only 234 total yards on offense on the day.
Winston’s five touchdowns were in no small part thanks to the play of these FSU receivers. Rashad Greene led all receivers with 108 receiving yards, while Kelvin Benjamin had a solid performance with five receptions for 60 yards and two touchdowns. Tight end Nick O’Leary remains a very versatile option with four catches for 55 yards and two touchdowns. Kenny Shaw also finished the day with five catches for 96 yards and a touchdown.
The FSU defense held Maryland’s productive offense to 234 total yards while completely eliminating their running game, only allowing a grand total of 33 yards on the ground.
With the win, the Seminoles improve to 5-0 overall with a 3-0 record in the ACC. Winston continued his hot streak and steadily continues his ascension toward Heisman contention. Florida State will have an opportunity to recharge its batteries before their big showdown in Death Valley against the Clemson Tigers.
