California vs. UCLA: Game Preview With TV Schedule

The UCLA Bruins are one of the best up-and-coming teams in the nation and Jim Mora has turned this team into a serious Pac-12 contender. Sitting at 4-0, the Bruins look to be one of the dark-horse threats to the top teams of the conference.

On the other side of the field, the California Golden Bears have had a rough start to the season at 1-4. Although they have just one win, they can still surprise some teams with their explosive offense.

UCLA’s offense has been phenomenal so far this season and the Bruins have one player in particular to thank for all of the offensive success. Brett Hundley is the leader, quarterback and Heisman-contender on this team and he is the main reason this team is going to contend for a Pac-12 title this season. Hundley has 1,059 yards and four touchdown passes through four games this season for the unbeaten Bruins. Jordan James has been great for the run game, racking up 463 yards and five touchdowns on 74 carries.

California also has a pretty solid offense, but with a freshman quarterback leading the way, it is extremely inexperienced. Jared Goff is that freshman quarterback and he has the potential to finish as one of the best in Cal football history before it’s all said and done. Although he’s completing just 59 percent of his passes, Goff has 1,821 yards and nine touchdowns through the air for the fourth-ranked passing offense in the nation. Chris Harper and Bryce Treggs combine for nearly 1,000 receiving yards and four scores, becoming the freshman’s favorite targets.

Defensively, Cal is one of the worst units in the nation, allowing 45 points per game to go along with over 520 yards per game — the third-worst defense in the nation. UCLA is not nearly as poor on the defensive side of the ball. The Bruins allow, on average, 20.3 points and 354.8 yards per game.

California will travel to UCLA to take on the Bruins at 10:30 p.m. EST on Saturday, Oct. 12. The game will be broadcasted on ESPN 2.
