Week 7 Biletnikoff Award Watch List

In today’s college football game, the passing attack is as important as ever and having a gamechanger at wide receiver can make all the difference in the world. Every year, we see phenomenal athletes break games wide open with their ability to make big plays and beat defenses over the top. At the end of the season, each of them hopes to stand alone as the best of the bunch and receive the Biletnikoff Award for their efforts.

This season, there is no shortage of great receivers making strong cases for the award. More surprising than the number of qualified contenders for the top spot among receivers is the absence of last season’s top dog, Marqise Lee of the USC Trojans. After walking away with the award last season, Lee has struggled to get on track in 2013, hampered by poor quarterback play, nonsensical play calling and now a knee injury that could keep him out of USC’s next game.

In his place, plenty of fantastic playmakers have stepped up to fill the void, including a couple from his own back yard in the Pac 12. Good quarterbacks can become great when they have receivers like this to make all their throws into potential touchdowns. A great receiver can break a game open and give an offense that added element that makes them truly explosive.

With that said, there have already been some receivers that are separating themselves from the rest of the pack. Without further ado, let’s count down the top 10 candidates for the 2013 Biletnikoff Award heading into Week 7.
