Cal Bears Need Kameron Jackson to Make Impact on Defense vs UCLA Bruins
The Cal Bears have shown a lot to like with their prolific offensive attack but have yet to beat an FBS team this season because of the horrendous play of their banged-up defense. Sonny Dykes has watched a thin defensive group get thinner as the season has gone on due to injuries and it has been extremely noticeable on the field as Cal ranks No. 123 in the country in total defense. Things won’t get any easier today as they try and slow down the No. 11 UCLA Bruins. Could the return of Kameron Jackson give the Bears a boost?
Jackson has been one of several Cal starters that have been limited this season due to injuries but has been practicing all week and is expected to see the field this week. Last season, he made a major impact in the game against UCLA intercepting Brett Hundley three times (his only three interceptions of the season) as the Bears thumped the Bruins 43-17 in Berkeley in 2012.
Hundley will undoubtedly remember Jackson less-than-fondly and will be looking to have a much better day this season against the seemingly overmatched Bears. Jackson will undoubtedly be a nice boost to a Cal secondary that is struggling this season and will be without Stefan McClure for the rest of the season. They need all the help they can get at this point so expect Jackson to be handed a lot of responsibility in this game.
But at the end of the day, Jackson will have to make a major impact on this game to give Cal a chance to upset the defending Pac 12 South division champs. Matching his career day against UCLA last season would be a good start. Is he the Bears’ secret weapon against the Bruins?
