True freshman Christian Hackenberg is quickly becoming a legend in Happy Valley. The young signal caller poured in an excellent performance in what was a game for the ages between Penn State and rival Michigan.
Hackenberg looked cool, calm, and collected. He staged a long drive that led to a field goal and tied the game to send it to overtime. He also led the game-winning drive in the fourth overtime culminating in a two-yard Bill Belton touchdown run.
There is ice in Hackenberg’s veins. The stage doesn’t look too big for the young freshman. This youngster, who was the most heavily recruited Quarterback in the country, has all the physical tools to be a special quarterback in Happy Valley and potentially the next level.
Head coach and offensive play caller Bill O’Brien is the perfect match for the young Hackenberg. O’Brien likes to run a pro style offense, and Hackenberg is a classic pro style pocket quarterback. So far it has been a match made in heaven.
Penn State went through a very rough period after the Jerry Sandusky scandal and Joe Paterno‘s untimely death. The arrival of a heck of a college head coach in O’Brien and a stud quarterback in the making in Hackenberg has helped put smiles back on the faces of the Penn State faithful.
Brighter times are ahead no doubt for Penn State and their faithful following. With the coach and quarterback in place the Nittany Lions are in good hands both now and in the future.
