Marcus Mariota Moves To The Top Of the Heisman List
Marcus Mariota had a performance for the ages on Saturday Night in defeating 16th ranked Washington 46-21. Mariota was simply breath taking beating the Huskies with his arm and his legs. Mariota picked the Huskies’ defense apart, passing for 366 yards and running for 88 more in a monster effort from the young quarterback.
The Huskies had zero answers for Mariota. He has dazzled all season, but this particular performance was one to be remembered for a long time. Mariota is quietly putting together a strong Heisman resume.
Right now, the race looks like it is between two men — Mariota and wonder boy Johnny Manziel. Mariota’s team still remains undefeated, and deserves style points for winning all their games in impressive, blowout fashion.
No doubt about it, it is the year of the quarterback in college football, and Mariota leads the charge. He must have NFL scouts salivating at his potential in their offense, especially his old head coach Chip Kelly.
He will remind some of a more polished version of Colin Kaepernick. Kaepernick recently took the league by storm, so this is the ultimate compliment. No doubt about it, Mariota will be a high pick in the draft come May.
For now, he is taking the college football world by storm. Defenses simply have no answer for him or the juggernaut Oregon offense. Many questioned if Oregon would keep up its well oiled machine of an offense after Kelly left for greener pastures, and that question has been answered emphatically. With Mariota at the helm, the coordinator and coach have not mattered much.
