The Oregon Ducks faced the Washington Huskies Saturday night with whispers of a potential upset after the Huskies barely lost to the Stanford Cardinal. Unfortunately, Washington never stood a chance. Despite 167 yards and two touchdowns from the best running back in the nation, Bishop Sankey, the Huskies were crushed 45-24.
In the first game that Marcus Mariota has played in a fourth quarter all season, he proved that he deserves to be the forerunner for this season’s Heisman. He threw for 366 yards and three touchdowns, as well as ran for 88 yards and one touchdown. He looks so calm and poised in the pocket as well as on the run that it’s going to take a special team to beat him and the rest of the Ducks.
After the win over Washington, Oregon deserves to jump the Alabama Crimson Tide in the rankings and become the No. 1 team in the country. They look like a better team and have defeated better opposition by much higher margins than the Crimson Tide. For now, Oregon deserves the No. 1 ranking.
However, whether the Crimson Tide or the Ducks are the better team looks like it will be decided in the BCS National Championship. Both teams look like they should run through the rest of their schedules without a loss. These two teams are on a collision course to put the two best teams from the two best conferences into the national title game.
Hopefully, we’ll finally find out the answer to the question that should’ve been answered last season – Oregon or Alabama?
