Auburn vs. Texas A&M: Game Preview With TV Schedule
The Auburn Tigers are new to the top 25 this week and their appearance in the rankings wouldn’t have seemed possible after a few poor seasons under Gene Chizik. However, there is a new coach in place and the Tigers are 5-1 and 2-1 in the SEC. They are looking to defeat their toughest opponent of the season against the Texas A&M Aggies.
On the other side of the field, the Aggies will be playing at home against the Tigers and they will be looking for a better performance than they had against the Ole Miss Rebels. Johnny Manziel almost suffered a scary knee injury in the game, but the Aggies came out on top and are now 5-1 on the season.
Auburn has seen Nick Marshall go down with an injury, making the quarterback situation a bit cloudy. Jeremy Johnson looks to be the quarterback of the future as the freshman quarterback shined in Marshall’s absence with 201 yards and four touchdowns on over 80 percent completions against a lowly Western Carolina team. It will be interesting to see how he can play against a team with the caliber of Texas A&M. Tre Mason has led the rushing attack with 515 yards and seven touchdowns while Cameron Artis-Payne is creeping up on Mason with 389 yards and three touchdowns.
As we all know, Johnny Manziel is the reigning Heisman winner and the leader of the Aggies. Manziel has 1,835 yards and 14 touchdowns on the season while also leading the team in rushing with 438 yards and five touchdowns. Mike Evans has been a big reason for Manziel’s continued success. The talented sophomore wide out has 32 catches for 737 yards and five touchdowns on the season — he may be the best wide out in the nation. While Manziel leads the 20th ranked rushing offense in the nation with his 438 yards, Ben Malena has rushed for 364 yards and an incredible eight touchdowns.
Defensively, the Aggies are one of the worst units in the SEC. To complement such a great offense, the defense would need to have a complete turnaround this season. It ranks 96th in the nation in points allowed per game as well as 113th in the nation in yards allowed per game. Auburn ranks 21st in the nation in points allowed per game and also 67th in the nation in yards allowed per game.
Auburn will travel to Texas A&M to take on the Aggies at 3:30 p.m. EST on Saturday, Oct. 19. The game will be broadcasted on CBS.
PREDICTION: Auburn 23, Texas A&M 38
