Ohio State still has a chance to be one of the two teams that will play in the BCS national title game in January, but the Buckeyes aren’t making things look easy right now.
They’ve been struggling in recent games and haven’t, at times, been showing what a dominant force everyone expects them to be. They need to go undefeated during the regular season and take the Big 10 title and then hope they get enough factors in their favor to draw a BCS title game bid.
There’s no guarantees, but coach Urban Meyer can guarantee that his Buckeyes go undefeated if he has them ready every game. He didn’t quite have them ready against Iowa and the Buckeyes were trailing at halftime. They are still 7-0 and holders of a 19-game win streak. At times they just seem to go through the motions.
Meyer needs to get the Buckeyes playing at the top of their game for 60 solid minutes every time they’re on the field. If he does that like he did in Florida, the Buckeyes will be too good to lose to anybody.
But right now, it’s hard to tell if they’ll go through the weak Big Ten unscathed. If they do that, then there will probably be enough late-season upsets to get the Buckeyes one of the title game spots.
Right now, Meyer needs to look at each game before the big picture comes into place. But it’s all up to him to make sure Ohio State doesn’t stumble on their path to the title game.
