Arizona State Sun Devils’ Win Over Washington Huskies Should Scare Other PAC-12 Teams
Sankey is the best running back in the country. He has run for over 150 yards in four games this season, which includes 125 yards against the tough No. 13 Stanford Cardinal defense and 167 against the No. 1 Oregon Ducks defense. There hasn’t been a defense in the PAC-12 that could stop Sankey all season long, until Saturday when they faced Arizona State.
The Sun Devil defense held him to 22 yards for the entire game and he took one of those for nine yards. Minus those nine yards, Sankey carried for 11 yards on 12 carries. That’s remarkable play from a defense that gave up 240 rushing yards in the loss to Stanford.
If Arizona State’s defense can continue to play to this level against the run and quarterback Taylor Kelly can show up in big games, they could upset the UCLA Bruins and win the PAC-12 South.
Winning the PAC-12 South is basically a ticket to a BCS Bowl, because Oregon looks so much better than every team in the country except the Florida State Seminoles and the Alabama Crimson Tide. No team on the Ducks’ schedule should stop them, barring a miracle, and that means Oregon should go to the BCS National Championship leaving the PAC-12 South winner to go to a BCS Bowl.
A BCS Bowl is in Arizona State’s reach if they can continue to play like they did against Washington, but there are still some tough must-win games for the Sun Devils.
