Oklahoma Sooners’ Win Over Kansas Jayhawks Not That Impressive
The Oklahoma Sooners defeated the Kansas Jayhawks 34–19 in a game that was crucial to their momentum for the rest of the season. After getting dominated by the Texas Longhorns last week, the Sooners should have come out against the lowly Jayhawks with all guns blazing. Unfortunately, they looked flat and won the game not due to their talent, but to Kansas’ lack of talent.
Quarterback Blake Bell had a horrible game in which he threw for only 131 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. Those stats may look okay for a tough grind it out win against a good defensive team in the SEC, but in a conference with offense being the key focus like the Big 12, it reflects poorly on Oklahoma’s ability to win against good teams later on in the season.
Next up for Oklahoma are two undefeated Big 12 teams, the Texas Tech Red Raiders and the Baylor Bears. Both of these teams have extremely efficient offenses, and Oklahoma will most likely have to score more than 50 points to win.
The Sooners must win these games if they want to stand a chance at winning the Big 12 and going to a BCS Bowl game. These two games will indicate how talented and determined this struggling Oklahoma team actually is or if they have just been overrated since the beginning of the season.
Hopefully, the bad game against Kansas was just a hangover from the disappointing loss to Texas, because if it isn’t, the Sooners could find themselves losing the next two games by huge margins.
