Colorado Needs Better Pac 12 Performances for November to Mean Something

At this point last season it was a forgone conclusion that Colorado would miss out on a bowl game for the fifth consecutive season. Fast forward to the present and it’s not too far fetched for Colorado to become bowl eligible as they already have three wins under their belt.

However, if Colorado wants to break their five year bowl drought they will have to start playing better against the rest of the Pac 12.

Colorado’s three losses this season have all come against fellow conference opponents, games in which they lost by an average of 36 points. The only game they were somewhat competitive in was in the first half against Oregon State but other than that they have been completely over matched.

“I think we all just want to play better. It’s not abut who we play each week because we know what we are capable of,” freshman quarterback Sefo Liufau stated on Tuesday. “We just have to come out against Pac 12 opponents and just let loose.”

Colorado got a fortunate break from conference play in their win last week over Charleston Southern but now it’s back to the grind of conference play with Arizona coming to Boulder this Saturday. The Buffs typically play better at home and this week’s game against the Wildcats is one of the few games left on their schedule where a win seemingly is not out of the question.

Arizona is 4-2 on the season but just 1-2 during conference play with losses to Washington and USC, both of those coming on the road. The Buffs will once again have to deal with Ka’Deem Carey, who is leading the nation in rushing yards per game (161 ypg), and who just happened to put up a conference record 366 rushing yards against Colorado last season.

It won’t be easy for Colorado to slow down Carey and the rest of the Wildcats but it’s a meaningful game mid-way through the season and for head coach Mike MacIntyre and the Buffs it’s all they can really ask for at this point.

“We’re 3-3 with three bowl (eligible) wins, we need to go get the one next week and if we do that it means November matters in Colorado which is great, that’s what our kids want to have happen.”
