It’s been quite some time since we have seen a Fresno State Bulldogs team as talented as this one. With one of the best quarterbacks in the nation, a 6-0 record and a No. 17 ranking in the latest polls, this team could easily be headed for a BCS berth as a lesser conference team.

On the other side of the field, the San Diego State Aztecs are just 3-3 on the season, but 2-0 in Mountain West play. Although their record is far off from the Bulldogs, the Aztecs can still contend for a conference title and a win at home against the unbeaten team will give them a slight edge in conference play.

Derek Carr leads the Fresno State offense and he has been one of the best quarterbacks in the nation this season. The senior has passed for 2,276 yards and 23 touchdowns while leading the fourth-ranked passing offense in the country to an unbeaten record through eight weeks. His favorite target seems to be Davante Adams who has caught 60 passes for 717 yards and 11 touchdowns on the year. Marteze Waller leads the run game with 408 yards and four touchdowns.

San Diego State has been relying on junior quarterback Quinn Kaehler for the past five games after a blowout loss to begin the season when junior quarterback Adam Dingwell completed just 42.9 percent of his passes and began the next game with an 0-5 mark. Kaehler has 1,231 yards and nine touchdowns on the year and the top target of both quarterbacks has been Ezell Ruffin who has caught 30 passes for 477 yards and a touchdown. The run game hasn’t been so solid, ranking 80th in the nation.

Defensively, the Aztecs have a hard time keeping teams out of the endzone. They rank 99th in the nation, allowing 32.7 points per game as well as 56th in the nation in yards allowed per game with just 400. Fresno State ranks 89th in the nation, allowing just over 30 points per game to go along with ranking 73rd in the nation by allowing over 420 yards per game — defense is not the Bulldogs’ strong suit.

Fresno State will travel to San Diego State to take on the Aztecs at 10:30 p.m. EST on Saturday, Oct. 26. The game will be broadcasted on ESPN 2.

PREDICTION: Fresno State 34, San Diego State 17
