Johnny Manziel’s Passing Numbers, NFL Draft Stock Continue To Increase

As Johnny Manziel‘s passing numbers improve, so to will his 2014 NFL Draft stock.

Now, the NFL was so obsessed with dual-threat quarterbacks last season, but professional teams are starting to realize that it’s always best to draft signal-callers for their arm and not their feet. With that being said, Manziel is following up his Heisman Trophy-winning freshman campaign with some passing statistics that are liable to blow your mind. The first of which is the fact that Johnny Football has thrown 22 touchdowns this year, and threw just 26 TDs in 2012.

On top of that, Manziel has gone for at least 400 passing yards three times this season, which is exactly what NFL scouts want to see. Without the ability to air it out, No. 2 would simply be an afterthought as his smaller stature would keep him away from the professional ranks. Moreover, the six-foot Drew Brees has excelled at the NFL level because he makes up for his minimal height with a cannon attached to his right shoulder. The Brees-Manziel comparison is going to be around from now until Johnny Football retires, so get used to it.

So, while rush-first quarterbacks were a hot commodity this time last season, it’s important for Manziel to keep slinging it if he hopes to be playing on Sunday’s anytime soon.
