With the Oklahoma Sooners looking to reclaim a bit of their dominance over the Big 12, they needed to take care of business against the upstart Texas Tech Red Raiders in Norman. To combat the high-powered passing attack of Tech, Oklahoma knew that they needed to get their running game involved early and often. Luckily for the Sooners, Damien Williams stepped up and answered the call, leading Oklahoma to a huge 38-30 victory.

After an early fumble by Brennan Clay led to a Texas Tech touchdown, Williams became the featured back for the Sooners’ attack the rest of the way. He finished the game with 19 carries for 97 yards and two big touchdowns on the ground. His contributions out of the backfield helped to lead the Sooners’ rushing attack to 277 yards as a team, controlling the tempo and sustaining long scoring drives that helped Oklahoma put the Raiders away.

With the win, Oklahoma puts themselves right in the mix in the Big 12 title race at 4-1 in conference play. The victory also gets Oklahoma back on track to playing a high level after getting blown out by the Texas Longhorns and struggling early against the Kansas Jayhawks in back-to-back weeks, making them a viable top-10 team once again. It was a much-needed strong performance against a team that has been red-hot this season as the Sooners got back to basics in securing the win.

The Oklahoma backfield is one of the most talented in the conference with multiple threats to take over a game. This week, it was Damien Williams stepping up and leading the way, getting the Sooners onto the right track as they hit the home stretch of the 2013 season.
