No. 15 Texas Tech faces No. 18 Oklahoma State in Lubbock on Saturday, looking to right the ship after suffering their first loss of the season to No. 10 Oklahoma. The Red Raiders are looking to remain in contention for the Big 12 Championship and a BCS Bowl bid, and a solid game from freshman quarterback Davis Webb will be necessary to keep those dreams alive.

In three games since earning the starting job, Webb has attempted at least 50 passes in every game and has thrown for an average of 421 yards and at least two touchdowns.

However, against the Sooners he threw two interceptions, one in the fourth quarter that resulted in an Oklahoma touchdown and an 11-point deficit. While Webb certainly did more good than bad for the Red Raiders in Norman, he’ll need to eliminate those mistakes if he wants to get the win against the Cowboys.

Oklahoma State’s defense currently ranks second in the Big 12 with 13 interceptions on the year, and against Iowa State they took an interception back for a touchdown. While the Cowboys don’t score effectively after an interception (only 20 points scored by the offense after the defense has forced an interception), turning the ball over puts stress on your defense, and while Tech’s defense has been good this season, we know what happens when a defense stays on the field all game. They get worn down, make mistakes, and eventually give up points.

However, if Webb can sling the ball around with confidence and not make mistakes, we should see the Red Raiders improve to 8-1 on the year and remain in contention for the Big 12 Title.
