BCS Rankings: Oregon Ducks Remain on Track for Title Game

The Oregon Ducks were on bye this week ahead of their showdown against the Stanford Cardinal next Thursday and fell one spot to No. 3 in the latest BCS rankings behind the Alabama Crimson Tide and Florida State SeminolesFSU made a push for their spot with a dominant win over the Miami Hurricanes and overcame the Ducks’ lead in the BCS standings for now. But there’s no reason for Oregon to panic because the path to the title game is clear: Just keep winning.

Oregon’s remaining schedule provides plenty of strong opposition that will be more than enough to secure the Ducks’ spot in the BCS standings. Starting with Stanford on Thursday (a top-10 opponent) and finishing in the Pac 12 title game if all goes well against likely the UCLA Bruins or Arizona State Sun Devils (top-20 opponents) with the Arizona Wildcats and Oregon State Beavers (both with winning records) in between. That strength of schedule should be more than enough to push them back into the top two for a spot in the BCS title game at season’s end even if every team maintains their perfect record.

Controlling their own destiny in the race for a national championship makes things easier for Mark Helfrich and the Oregon coaching staff as they get their team focused on the challenge that lies ahead of them. There won’t be any need to watch the scoreboards of teams around the country to see whether or not Oregon will get the opportunity to compete for the national title which allows the team to just care of business on the field.

With the talent that Oregon has on both sides of the ball, it’s easy to see why they’re ranked among the best teams in the country. This year, however, they’ll need to be perfect to play for college football’s biggest prize. The good news for them, however, that isn’t true of some of the other contenders this season is that all they need to do is win. The rest will take care of itself.
