The LSU Tigers are one of those remaining teams that have a shot at taking down the mighty Alabama Crimson Tide. At the beginning of the season, no one thought that the Tigers would have enough of an offensive attack to make any noise in the SEC — those people were wrong.
Alabama’s schedule is full of W’s and the Tigers are looking to change that and knock the Crimson Tide off their pedestal. Alabama has won two consecutive national titles and it looks like they are on their way to a third-straight appearance.
The Tigers have a 7-2 record to begin the year as well as one of the top offenses in college football behind senior quarterback and top draft prospect, Zach Mettenberger. It seems like LSU’s offense has taken off this season behind the senior gunslinger who has 2,492 yards and 19 touchdowns to go along with seven interceptions on the season. He has developed quite the connection with Odell Beckham and Jarvis Landry who have 1,009 and 882 yards, respectively, as well as eight touchdowns apiece. Don’t forget about the underrated run game with Jeremy Hill at running back, rushing for 922 yards and 12 touchdowns on the year.
AJ McCarron has led this team to two national titles in his time as a starter and the senior quarterback is looking to win his third in as many years as the starting quarterback for this team. The Crimson Tide are unbeaten because of the quarterback’s leadership and solid play, passing for 1,862 yards and 18 touchdowns with no clear No. 1 receiver at the moment. Okay, so maybe the pass game isn’t what it was a season ago, the senior leader has had some extra help from his defense as well as the running backs. The run game ranks 26th nationally as T.J. Yeldon has 729 yards and 10 touchdowns on 6.3 yards per carry while Kenyan Drake has 491 yards and seven touchdowns on 7.8 yards per carry.
Defensively, the Crimson Tide are known for having a ferocious attack — feared by most of college football. Alabama ranks first in the nation in points allowed and fourth in the nation in yards allowed per game. The Tigers rank 31st in points allowed and 33rd in yards allowed — this could be a low-scoring affair.
The LSU Tigers will travel to Alabama to take on the Crimson Tide at 8 p.m. EST on Saturday, Nov. 9. The game will be broadcasted on CBS.
