Texas Tech vs. Kansas State: Game Preview With TV Schedule
Kliff Kingsbury has been one of the best hires of the offseason when it comes to head coaches. The Texas Tech Red Raiders have benefited greatly from the hire and are looking at a 7-2 record through nine games with two tough games remaining on their schedule.
On the other side of the field, the Kansas State Wildcats look to be a team on the comeback trail after two straight victories in the Big 12 after a tough 2-4 start to the season. Just two wins away from bowl eligibility, the Wildcats must win this week in order to have a legitimate chance.
Texas Tech is led by two of the best young quarterbacks in the nation. Baker Mayfield began the season as the team’s quarterback, passing for 1,488 yards and eight touchdowns. The freshman was then switched out with Davis Webb, another freshman, who has also been stellar for the second-ranked passing offense, accounting for 2,237 yards and 15 touchdowns on the year. Jace Amaro has been the favorite target of both, catching 79 passes for 1,035 yards and four touchdowns. The run game is nearly non-existent.
Kansas State might be just two wins away from bowl eligibility, but the offense will need to step up if they want to have a chance at winning two of their final four games. Being one of the most average offensive attacks in the nation, the Wildcats are led by junior quarterback Jake Waters who has 1,391 yards and seven touchdowns on the year with Tyler Lockett being his favorite target. Lockett has caught 44 passes for 658 yards and four touchdowns.
Defensively, the Wildcats are an above average unit. Kansas State ranks 32nd in the nation in points allowed and 24th in the nation in yards allowed per contest. Texas Tech ranks 50th in points allowed as well as 57th in yards allowed per contest because of the two top teams they have played in recent weeks.
Kansas State will travel to Texas Tech to take on the Red Raiders at 12 p.m. EST on Saturday, Nov. 9. The game will be broadcasted on ABC.
