Eastern Michigan Looking For First Conference Win vs. Western Michigan
The Eastern Michigan Eagles will be taking the field on Saturday looking to knock off their in-state rival the Western Michigan Broncos. Both teams are 1-8 overall and have suffered through the stress of losing seasons. However, for the Eagles, they have not yet tasted a conference home victory this year. Western Michigan’s lone victory on the season came against conference foe UMASS on the road. The time is now for the Eagles to put the past behind them and play lights out this Saturday.
Eastern Michigan has struggled to score points this year, as the team is averaging 19.3 points per game (113th in the country). Offensively, the Eagles are averaging 205.1 passing yards per game and are averaging 152.8 rushing yards per game. The Eagles will need to test a Broncos defense that is giving up 36.7 points per game and is allowing chunks of yards in the running game. Western Michigan is surrendering 243.3 rushing yards per game and has been manhandled by physical offensive lines throughout the season.
Defensively, the Eagles are giving up 45.6 points per game (125th in the nation) and must find some answers on Saturday against a Broncos offense averaging 15.3 points per game (121st in the country). The Eagles are allowing 265 rushing yards per game and are giving up 256 passing yards per game. In order to get the victory this weekend, the Eagles will need to create turnovers at home. The team is minus-eight in turnover margin and the defense has forced seven turnovers through nine games.
The Eagles will need to load eight men in the box to stop the run and force Broncos freshman quarterback Zach Terrell into beating them with his arm. The Eagles will need to generate a pass rush on third down situations and force Terrell into making quick throws to his wide receivers.
For the season, the Eagles have 13 sacks through nine games and the Broncos offensive line has allowed 16 sacks through nine games.
Game time is set for 1:00 p.m. at Eastern Michigan.
