Even though BYU is unranked, the Cougars are 6-2 with quality wins on their schedule. A loss to a bad Virginia Cavaliers team to open the season certainly isn’t good, but the Cougars did manage to crush the 6-2 Texas Longhorns earlier this year. Not to mention, they are a program that is collecting many votes in other polls. That means a convincing win for the Badgers could do wonders in terms of their status in the BCS standings.
There is still hope for Wisconsin to reach a solid bowl if they can win out and get some help along the way. There is certainly plenty of time for that with four games still left on the schedule.
The Badgers are definitely going to have their hands full against a very talented Cougars team. BYU is averaging over 500 yards per game of total offense, including 258.8 yards per contest on the ground, which is good for 14th in the FBS rankings. The good news is Wisconsin is more than capable of controlling the flow of the game with their own stellar running game.
At this point, the biggest thing for the Badgers is if their defense can hold up against a well-balanced offense. The hope is that Wisconsin’s offense will be able to take some of the pressure off but it will not come easy.
Make no mistake about it; the Cougars will be the second toughest opponent the Badgers face this season. A blowout win could open up all sorts of possibilities later this year for Wisconsin. However, the way the Badgers’ season has gone they will be thrilled to get a victory against a top-notch opponent no matter how it comes.
