BCS Standings: Florida State Seminoles Lock Up No. 2

The Florida State Seminoles jumped up to No. 2 in last week’s BCS standings thanks to an impressive win over the Miami Hurricanes but feared their stay there might be short-lived. They benefited greatly, however, from the Stanford Cardinal knocking off the Oregon Ducks on Thursday night prior to their dismantling of the Wake Forest Demon Deacons and now are locked in as the No. 2 team in the BCS standings. Are they bound for the BCS National Championship?

Judging by the latest rankings, FSU is firmly in control of their own destiny in terms of qualifying for the national title game. That means Jimbo Fisher just needs to keep his team focused on the games ahead of them (vs the Syracuse Orange, Idaho Vandals and Florida Gators) before the ACC title game against the winner of the Coastal Division which currently has four teams tied with two losses a piece.

That makes the path crystal clear for the Noles in their quest for the crystal football: Just keep winning. They have locked themselves into the No. 2 spot in the BCS rankings behind the Alabama Crimson Tide and will be focused on finishing strong to punch their ticket for Pasadena to match up against the two-time defending champs. Their resume and body of work should be more than enough to hold off late surges from the Ohio State Buckeyes and Baylor Bears if they also happen to run the table and finish undefeated.

It’s been a long wait for Noles fans to get back on top of the college football world. They have the opportunity ahead of them to change that with a strangle-hold on one of the spots to the national title game. Can they finish strong and play for college football’s biggest prize?
