Big Ten Previews and Predictions: Week 12

big ten
Brian Spurlock-USA TODAY Sports

Week 11 of the college football season has come and passed and it looks like the Big Ten is shaping up to have one of the most exciting finishes to the season of any conference title race. While the Ohio State Buckeyes keep on winning, other teams look to knock them off their pedestal, but it might have to wait until the Big Ten title game for that to happen this season.

The Big Ten season is now progressing to look like the game between the Michigan State Spartans and Nebraska Cornhuskers this weekend will decide who heads to the Big Ten title game from the Legends Division. The Spartans are currently in first place in the division with Nebraska following by just one game. A win for the Cornhuskers at home against the tough Spartans will put the Huskers ahead -- possibly for good -- with just two weeks remaining in the regular season.

Michigan State will look to silence critics and extend their record to 9-1 with a win and one step closer to a Rose Bowl or just a regular BCS bowl berth.

The Wisconsin Badgers are right behind the Buckeyes in the Leaders Division, hoping for two more Ohio State losses to end the season, giving the Badgers their fourth straight chance at a Big Ten title. However, that's highly unlikely and it looks like the Buckeyes have locked up the division.

In another less implications-ridden game, the Michigan Wolverines will be looking to salvage their pride, taking on the Northwestern Wildcats on the road after losing two straight games. In that case, the Wildcats are looking to salvage their pride as well and make a bowl game after five straight losses have dropped their record to 4-5.

Take a look at this weeks previews and predictions for every Big Ten game in week 12.

Purdue at Penn State

penn state
Brad Rempel-USA TODAY Sports

Both of these teams are having somewhat of a down season, but it will be Penn State and the Nittany Lions who come on top because they, unlike Purdue, have a talented quarterback and offensive weapon on the roster.

PREDICTION: Purdue 10, Penn State 27

Indiana at No. 22 Wisconsin

Jeff Hanisch-USA TODAY Sports

Indiana has an explosive offense, but the Badgers have a top defense. Wisconsin has a top rushing attack and two of the best running backs in the conference while the Hoosiers have no defense. Easy win for the Badgers.

PREDICTION: Indiana 27, Wisconsin 37

No. 3 Ohio State at Illinois

This game will not be pretty as the Fighting Illini are reeling just like the other team from Illinois in the Big Ten. The Buckeyes are the third-best team in the nation and they have one of the most explosive offenses in the conference. That spells doom for one of the worst defenses around in Illinois.

PREDICTION: Ohio State 41, Illinois 7

Michigan at Northwestern

Rick Osentoski-USA TODAY Sports

Michigan and Northwestern are both teams that are looking for a morale-booster. Although the Wolverines are guaranteed a bowl bid, the Wildcats are still playing for one after losing five straight following a 4-0 start to the season. Michigan is just too talented to lose yet again and Devin Gardner will prove the Wildcats are mere kittens.

PREDICTION: Michigan 34, Northwestern 17

No. 16 Michigan State at Nebraska

Mike Carter-USA TODAY Sports

Michigan State needs this win to send them to the Big Ten title game, guaranteed. However, Nebraska also needs a win here to set themselves up for a chance at a title game appearance for the second straight season. Backup quarterbacks going up against the best defense in the nation will not end well for the Cornhuskers, however.

PREDICTION: Michigan State 28, Nebraska 24
