The Heisman Trophy, the most coveted individual, statistics-based award in football — if not all of sports — has many worthy suitors this year and like many other seasons, the majority of the candidates are quarterbacks.

In 2012, a freshman phenom by the name of Johnny Manziel bursted onto the scene and took the entire college football universe by storm. It wasn’t long before pundits presented the gifted Manziel with the nickname “Johnny Football.” Manziel became the first freshman to take home the Heisman Trophy in the award’s existence. He finished the 2012 season for Texas A&M with 3,706 passing yards, 1,410 rushing yards and 47 total touchdowns. Believe it or not, Manziel is actually improving on his 2012 numbers this year. But where does he fall on the list?

Another freshman has stepped into the spotlight this season. Jameis Winston of Florida State is, in the eyes of many, the top candidate for the 2013 Heisman Trophy. He has taken the Seminoles to a 9-0 season thus far and a No. 2 ranking in the BCS.

Though many believe this Heisman race will come down to Manziel, Winston and Marcus Mariota of Oregon, nothing is official until it is announced. Former Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck was a lock to win the award during the preseason before his senior year, but he was beat out by Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III.

This Heisman race will be a tight one and will come down to individual performances over the last few weeks of the college football season. All of the following 10 players are having phenomenal seasons, but who is most deserving of the hardware?
