Nick Marshall Answers Challenge for Auburn Tigers vs Georgia Bulldogs

By Tyler Brett

The Auburn Tigers have made arguably the biggest turnarounds in the country this season and are in a position to win the SEC West this season one year after going winless in conference play. They kept their strong season rolling on Saturday with an impressive win over the Georgia Bulldogs thanks to another strong start from quarterback Nick Marshall who answered for the Tigers when they needed him the most to secure the win.

Georgia made their best effort to get back into the game late with 21 fourth-quarter points in a rally to go up 38-37 with just 1:49 to play. Marshall stepped up and answered, connecting on a 73-yard touchdown throw to Ricardo Louis with just 25 seconds to go. Most of the day, Marshall had been making his plays with his legs but stepped up in the passing game when it mattered which could be the difference maker in Auburn’s fortunes down the stretch.

Marshall finished the day with 318 total yards of offense and three touchdowns in the win and routinely made the plays necessary to get the Auburn offense rolling. Emerging as a true dual-threat under center is a huge boost to the Tigers’ offense and could be a key in Auburn breaking through and making it to the SEC title game at season’s end. Adding the passing element to the Auburn offense, which has been great at running the ball, makes them a more complete and dangerous team.

Getting more out of Marshall in the passing game is a huge boost for Auburn the rest of the way. If the young quarterback can be a threat both running and passing, Gus Malzahn is poised to take Auburn all the way to the top of the SEC in 2013.
