From day one of the 2013 season, the Alabama Crimson Tide have been the king of the hill in the polls for college football. Week in and week out, they have maintained their spot at No. 1 in every poll, including the one that matters most; the BCS. This week’s BCS standings, therefore, are no surprise at the top with the Tide maintaining their spot at No. 1. While the rest of the BCS rankings remain in flux, Alabama looks to be untouchable as the top team in college football.
It wasn’t big on style points but Alabama’s 20-7 win over the Mississippi State Bulldogs was more than enough to keep the Tide on top of everyone’s ballot this week. The Tide face just one more challenge in the regular season when they travel to play the Auburn Tigers in the Iron Bowl in the final game of the regular season. If they win there, Alabama will head to the SEC title game in another test before taking their spot in the BCS National Championship game.
Who they play there is still yet to be determined, of course. The Florida State Seminoles have the inside track at No. 2 but the Baylor Bears and Ohio State Buckeyes remain undefeated for now and are jockeying for position in the top four trying to crack the top two for a shot at the national title. But Nick Saban and his club don’t need to worry about any of that for now. All they need to do is keep on winning.
As the back-to-back national champs, Alabama gets the benefit of the doubt when it comes to separating out the best of the best among undefeated teams in college football. While teams push and shove for position in the BCS standings, the Tide stand firm at the top as the No. 1 team in college football.
