ACC Previews and Predictions for Week 13
ACC Week 13 Previews and Predictions
While the ACC has not been as strong this season as it has been in recent years, there are a couple teams left that could end up playing for BCS bowl games. In fact, one of those teams might end up playing for the BCS national title game if they don't lose any more games.
Prior to the season, people were talking about how good the Florida State Seminoles would be even after they lost their starting quarterback from a season ago, EJ Manuel. Well, they are good, but nobody thought they'd be this good. Florida State has begun the season 10-0 and by winning out, they can ensure themselves a spot in the BCS title game against the Alabama Crimson Tide -- assuming Alabama wins out as well.
How can a team who lost its starting quarterback from a season ago after going to a BCS bowl get even better? When you have a guy like Jameis Winston on your roster, it's not too difficult. The freshman quarterback has been the most consistent performer in college football this season and he will likely walk home with the Heisman Trophy this season -- becoming the second freshman to ever win the award.
Florida State isn't the only good team in the conference as the Clemson Tigers are also in line to make a BCS bowl if everything goes well enough. The Tigers faced off against the Seminoles earlier in the year, but were blown out at home, dropping out of national title talks. That has been Clemson's only loss on the year and it looks like the Tigers will be fighting to keep it that was with one tough game left on the schedule.
This week doesn't feature too many top games in the ACC and it will be a pretty typical week. However, upsets do happen.
Take a look at the ACC week 13 previews and predictions for each game.
Old Dominion at North Carolina
Old Dominion is just 1-2 against FBS teams this season and hasn't beaten a team from a major confernece. Don't expect that to change here as the Tar Heels will utilize their 27th-ranked passing offense on Old Dominion.
PREDICTION: Old Dominion 14, North Carolina 37
Duke at Wake Forest
Although Duke is on the road in this matchup, the Demon Deacons have one of the worst offenses in the conference. The Blue Devils solid defense will stop the poor offense and improve the team's road record to 4-0 on the season.
PREDICTION: Duke 34, Wake Forest 20
Virginia at Miami
Miami seems to be downward-spiraling since starting the season 7-0 and in the Top 10, however, it's time for Stephen Morris to have a breakout game -- he will need to do so against a mediocre Virginia team.
PREDICTION: Virginia 10, Miami 31
Citadel at No. 7 Clemson
Although Citadel has a solid run game, the Clemson Tigers have a solid overall offense -- and the defense isn't too bad either. Watch out for Sammy Watkins to burn this FCS defense deep nearly every time the ball is in the air.
PREDICTION: Citadel 17, Clemson 40
East Carolina at North Carolina State
North Carolina State has lost six straight games and it looks like the slide might continue against sneakily one of the best defenses in the nation in East Carolina. With no offense, the Wolfpack seem doomed for an upset.
PREDICTION: East Carolina 27, North Carolina State 24
Pittsburgh at Syracuse
Both of these teams are playing for a bowl game in this one as both teams are 5-5 on the season. They are pretty evenly matched offensively and defensively, but the Orange are coming off a demoralizing loss to Florida State and have no quality wins this season -- Pittsburgh has two.
PREDICTION: Pittsburgh 28, Syracuse 21
Alabama A&M at Georgia Tech
Alabama A&M just, plain and simple, won't be able to stop Georgia Tech's solid run game as the FCS squad has little chance in this one.
PREDICTION: Alabama A&M 7, Georgia Tech 38
Boston College at Maryland
Randy Edsall and Maryland are coming off a huge overtime win against Virginia Tech while Boston College has won three straight games. However, Maryland is at home and just a bit stronger on offense, despite Andre Williams' success -- plus they have home-field advantage.
PREDICTION: Boston College 24, Maryland 30
Idaho at No. 2 Florida State
This is just a no-brainer. One of the worst defenses in the nation facing off against one of the best offenses and a Heisman candidate. Ouch.
PREDICTION: Idaho 0, Florida State 63
