Big Ten Previews and Predictions for Week 13
Big Ten Week 13 Previews and Predictions
The Big Ten is not considered the best conference in the nation, but it has seen its fair share of solid play this season. Some of the best teams in the conference have seemingly dropped out of the title race while others who weren't expected to fare well in the Big Ten have exceeded expectations.
It seems like it's been years since the Ohio State Buckeyes have lost a game -- and it has been since 2011. The Buckeyes have won 22 straight games under Urban Meyer and it looks like this team might never lose again. With a 22-0 record as head coach, the Buckeye faithful might just want him there forever -- and why not? Ohio State has a good chance to make it to the BCS national title game as the No. 3 team in the rankings right now, a loss from any of the top two teams and winning out would ensure that happens.
Ohio State isn't the only solid team in the conference as the Michigan State Spartans have emerged as the conferences No. 2 team and the one team that might have a chance to knock off the Buckeyes -- if the Michigan Wolverines or Indiana Hoosiers don't do so. The Spartans are 9-1 on the season and it looks as if they will lock up the Legends Division with one more win or a Minnesota Golden Gophers loss. Not many people saw the Spartans contending for a conference title after a mediocre 2012 campaign.
The Wisconsin Badgers are that third solid team in the Big Ten that could possibly contend for a Big Ten title, but they will need the Buckeyes to lose out -- very unlikely. Their reign of three straight Rose Bowls is coming to an end and it was good while it lasted.
Let's take a look at the week 13 previews and predictions for every Big Ten game.
Michigan at Iowa
Michigan has struggled more than any team in the conference lately, but the Wolverines will break out big time against the struggling secondary of the Iowa Hawkeyes. Devid Gardner will finally have his coming out game.
PREDICTION: Michigan 35, Iowa 24
Illinois at Purdue
Illinois is traveling to Purdue in the snoozefest of the week as both teams are winless in conference play. However, Illinois has one thing that Purdue doesn't: a veteran quarterback with serious talent.
PREDICTION: Illinois 34, Purdue 16
No. 13 Michigan State at Northwestern
Michigan State is looking to clinch a trip to the Big Ten title game with one more win. Although the Northwestern Wildcats will be at home and probably pretty angry after six straight losses, the Spartans rigid defense will hold pat and shut down the Wildcats.
PREDICTION: Michigan State 31, Northwestern 14
Nebraska at Penn State
Nebraska is coming off a tough home loss, but the Cornhuskers' offense is too talented to lose two in a row. Penn State's 39th-ranked defense will have a hard time stopping Ameer Abdullah.
PREDICTION: Nebraska 35, Penn State 27
No. 19 Wisconsin at No. 25 Minnesota
In the most meaningful game in recent series memory, the Wisconsin Badgers will show Minnesota just why they are not ready to be a contender. Wisconsin's run game will be far too much for the Gophers to handle.
PREDICTION: Wisconsin 38, Minnesota 21
Indiana at No. 3 Ohio State
Indiana just doesn't have the defense to stop the Buckeyes in this one. Ohio State will likely continue its long win streak with a huge win over the Hoosiers at home behind the strong arm of Braxton Miller.
PREDICTION: Indiana 17, Ohio State 47
