Central Florida vs. Rutgers: Game Preview With TV Schedule

The Central Florida Knights nearly handed the Temple Owls their second win of the season a week ago, but it took a furious late-game comeback to put the one-loss Knights ahead for good. Although they stumbled a bit, the Knights are still in contention for a BCS bowl.

On the other side of the field, the Rutgers Scarlet Knights have struggled in conference play this season with a 2-3 record in conference and a 5-4 record overall. Searching for bowl eligibility, the Scarlet Knights will need to win one of their final three games and it looks very likely.

Central Florida has been the surprise team of the season it seems. No one thought that this team would be contending for a conference title and be the one team to beat the Louisville Cardinals. Their only loss came at the hands of the South Carolina Gamecocks and it was by just three points. Blake Bortles leads the team at quarterback as well as engineering the 26th-best passing offense in the nation with 2,484 yards and 19 touchdowns. His favorite target has been Rannell Hall who has 40 catches for 639 yards and three touchdowns. Storm Johnson is the leading rusher by a wide margin with 841 yards and nine touchdowns on 156 carries.

Rutgers has a better passing offense than rushing offense, ranking 47th in the nation in passing yards per game behind quarterback Gary Nova who has 2,052 yards and 18 touchdowns. Nova’s favorite target has been Leonte Carroo who has 27 catches for 469 yards and nine touchdowns while Brandon Coleman isn’t too far behind with 28 catches for 403 yards and three scores. Paul James leads all running backs with his 6.7 yards per carry equalling out to 651 yards and six touchdowns.

Defensively, Rutgers hasn’t been all that impressive this season. The Scarlet Knights rank 94th in the nation in points allowed per game while ranking 105th in yards allowed per game. Central Florida ranks 21st in points against while also ranking 32nd in yards allowed per game — much better than Rutgers in both categories.

Rutgers will travel to Central Florida to take on the Knights at 7:30 p.m. EST on Thursday, Nov. 21. The game will be broadcasted on ESPN.

PREDICTION: Rutgers 17, Central Florida 34
