South Carolina vs. Coastal Carolina: Game Preview With TV Schedule
Steve Spurrier‘s South Carolina Gamecocks look like a serious contender for the SEC title this season and it might actually happen if the Missouri Tigers lose another game while the Gamecocks keep winning. Sitting at 8-2 with one tough game left on the schedule, it would be impressive if the Gamecocks won the SEC East.
On the other side of the field, the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers are having a pretty solid season, but the Gamecocks will be their biggest and toughest test of the season without a question. With a 10-1 record, the Chanticleers look to make an upset bid on the road.
South Carolina is led by quarterback Connor Shaw who has led this team all season long and has done a great job at doing just that. Shaw has 1,868 yards and 19 touchdowns on the year while hitting Bruce Ellington 36 times for 541 yards and six scores and Damiere Byrd 29 times for 540 yards and four touchdowns. The rushing attack ranks 36th in the nation behind talented running back Mike Davis who has 1,112 yards and 10 touchdowns with Shaw ranking second on the team with 378 yards and three scores.
Coastal Carolina is led by talented quarterback Alex Ross who has 2,282 yards and 17 touchdowns on the year with only six interceptions to go with it. He’s also third on the team in rushing with 365 yards and six touchdowns on the ground. His favorite target has been Matt Hazel who has caught 49 passes for 734 yards and seven touchdowns on the season. The ground game is led by Lorenzo Taliaferro who has an impressive stat line with 1,466 yards and 23 touchdown on 6.7 yards per carry.
Defensively, South Carolina ranks 24th in points against, allowing 21.3 per game, while also ranking 19th in yards allowed per game with just under 350. Coastal Carolina allows 25.5 points per game as well as 417.1 yards per game — not nearly as solid as the Gamecocks.
