Wisconsin Badgers Recruit Rafael Gaglianone Will Provide Upgrade in Kicking
With placekicker Kyle French forgoing his senior season with the Wisconsin Badgers and the kicking game being a sore spot on the team, there is no question the school is excited about their latest recruit.
Placekicker Rafael Gaglianone out of The Baylor School in Chattanooga, Tenn. committed to Wisconsin on Sunday. Gaglianone was unable to make it to the Badgers’ 51-3 domination over the Indiana Hoosiers due to delays in travel. It is unfortunate that he wasn’t able to see the game, which would have sealed the deal for any recruit. However, he was thoroughly impressed by the school on his trip and decided immediately Wisconsin is where he wants to play.
“Just committed to Wisconsin !!! #Badgers #OnWisconsin,” Gaglianone tweeted Sunday afternoon.
Gaglianone is rather new to playing football as he began kicking just a few years ago when came to the United States from Brazil. The good news is just because he’s new to the sport shouldn’t make a difference. In fact, he is nominated for Kicker of the Year in Tennessee for the second consecutive season.
The Badgers do have sophomore kicker Jack Russell and freshman Andrew Endicott on the current roster. Both players are expected to be around next season, which means the Badgers’ might toss Gaglianone into a kicking competition for the starting job. Russell is 5-for-7 on his field goal attempts this year, while Endicott has never kicked a field goal in a game.
Gaglianone has a strong leg as he converted a 57-yard field goal this season. He also knocked 42 of his 44 kickoffs into the end zone for a touchback.
