The typical sports buzz on the campus of Duke University around this time of year is all about basketball and how far Coach Mike Krzyzewski’s team will go. Times have changed, however, as the Blue Devils of the gridiron are demanding attention.

Last season, Head Coach David Cutcliffe led his team to its first bowl appearance since January of 1995 and earned ACC Coach of the Year honors. Those achievements now seem as if they were merely setting the stage for 2013. After Saturday afternoon’s 28-21 victory over Wake Forest, their seventh consecutive win, the Blue Devils are 9-2 and sitting atop the ACC’s Coastal Division.

Wide receiver Jamison Crowder, as he has done all season long, set the tone offensively for Duke in this contest. The Demon Deacons had no answer for the junior as he racked up 10 receptions for 121 yards. Along with going over the century mark for the sixth time this season, Crowder came down with two of quarterback Anthony Boone’s trio of touchdown tosses.

Over the next week, Coach Cutcliffe will prepare his troops for archrival North Carolina. A win versus the Tar Heels would punch their ticket to the ACC Championship Game on Dec. 7. With so much at stake, Duke cannot afford to fall short on any detail in their plan of attack. North Carolina will bring in a five-game winning streak of their own and will not be an easy out. History will be on the line for the Blue Devils next Saturday.
